- Transport: Grab is king here. LRT and MRT are efficient for main routes, but Grab fills all the gaps.
- Food: Hawker centers are where locals eat. Follow the longest queues for the best food.
- Weather: Hot and humid year-round with afternoon thunderstorms. Always carry an umbrella.
- Language: Bahasa Malaysia is official, but English is widely spoken. Learn "terima kasih" (thank you).
- Culture: Respect religious sites - dress modestly and remove shoes when required.

- Nasi Lemak: The national dish - coconut rice with sambal, anchovies, and egg
- Char Kway Teow: Stir-fried rice noodles with prawns, Chinese sausage, and bean sprouts
- Rendang: Slow-cooked beef in coconut and spices - often called the world's best dish
- Roti Canai: Flaky flatbread perfect for breakfast with curry dip
- Durian: The king of fruits - love it or hate it, but you must try it
